Description: |
Twisted shrub that can grow until 2-4 m; many
flexible benches diverge from the base and are packed with
coupled long needles (until 4 cm), dark-green coloured. The bark
is brown-grey with rhomboidal plates; on the same plant there
are male cones until 1 cm of length at the joint of that year
bench, and female ones, at first green and then red-violet,
isolated or coupled at the top of the benches. |

Ecology: |
It can be found between 1800 and 2300 m, beyond
the edge of arboreal vegetation. It grows on basic, calcareous
or Dolomitic grounds. |

Flowering: |
It flowers from May to July. |
|
Interest: |
Protected Species in conformity with L. R. 45/79
of Regione Abruzzo. The Majella hosts the widest presence of
Apennines, where it represents a climax relict, with an areale
larger in the past and then narrowed because of the climatic
changes of the last 10.000 years. |

Presence In the Park: |
In the Park it can be seen on Majelletta, Monte
Cavallo, Monte D'Ugni, Gobbe di Selvaromana, Valle dell'Orfento,
Pesco Falcone, Eastern Majella. |
