Majellense Violet
 

Family: Violaceae
Scientific Name: Viola magellensis Porta & Rigo ex Strobl
Description: Perennial plant with creeping trunk and small ovate-lanceolate leaves. Its flower is purple-liliaceous.
Ecology: It can be found between 2000 and 2800 meters. It colonizes the high-altitude calcareous crushed stones and gravelled pastures.
Flowering: It flowers between May and August.
Interest: As can be guessed from its name, it is an endemic species of Majella, Gran Sasso and Monte Vettore. Protected species in conformity with L. R. 45/79 of Regione Abruzzo. Rare species according to the Red List of Italian Plants.
Presence In the Park: It can be found on Majella in Val Cannella, on Monte Focalone, Valle di Femmina Morta (Dead Female Valley) and Monte Amaro.
