GUARDIAGRELE Ancient village dominated by the Longobard tower which once guarded the inhabited place called Grele, the history of Guardiagrele dates back to the Roman times, when it was called Aelion. Guardiagrele has been an excellent artisan centre for centuries, renowned for its wrought gold, copper and iron: it was not for sheer chance that the great goldsmith Nicola da Guardiagrele was born here. Moreover, every August Guardiagrele is the centre of an interesting Handicraft Exhibition. Guardiagrele, situated at 600 m. above sea level, offers a breathtaking view from the tops of the Majella to the Adriatic sea. It is also an ideal starting- point for excursions in the Park, towards Bocca di Valle, Piana delle Mele, Valle delle Monache, Cascata San Giovanni and Majelletta, too.
