Tourist Activities…

Michele Tenore Botanical Garden has been recognized as a very important garden in Abruzzo by a regional law (D.G.R. n 3489, 23/12/98).
Established in 1995, it collects nowadays almost 500 vegetable species on a surface of 9000 m2.
The symbol of the Garden is the Majella Cornflower (Centaurea tenoreana), a species which grows on the Eastern side of Mount Majella and has been discovered by Michele Tenore.

The Garden is divided in didactical sections which reproduce real environments of Mount Majella. Several species cultivated in the Garden are typical of Central Apennines or Mount Majella.
The interesting reproduction of a Neolithic agricultural landscape is still under construction. Another interesting section is the one intended to preserve the cultivar agronomiche and the species used by the traditional popular medicine.

The Garden has the intent to preserve some endangered species, such as the Centaurea tenoreana, the Aquilegia magellensis, the Cymbalaria pallida, the Iris marsica, the Astragalus aquilanus, the Acer cappadocicum subsp. lobelii, the Goniolimon italicum and other rare plants, like the Phlomis fruticosa and the Salvia officinalis var. angustifolia which grow only near the sink of the ancient Fucino riverbed.

Information:
“D. Brescia” and “M. Tenore” Botanical Gardens are opened all year round, but it is always advisable to visit them in spring and summer. Both Gardens organize guided tours during opening hours and/or on demand.
