Family: Caryophyllaceae

Scientific name: Cerastium thomasii Ten.

Description: Plant rarely higher than 6 cm with plump opposite leaves. It forms small mats or cushions. Flowers are white, double-lobed, and visible in July-August. It grows on screes and gravels at high altitudes.

Distribution: Endemic of central Apennine, it is present only in Abruzzo and Lazio.

Notes: Rare species, listed in the regional Red List of the endangered species, under the “Lower risk” (LR) category.
