Facility Network

In less than a decade from its foundation, Majella National Park created a complex network of structures for all kinds of visitors (schools, groups, individual or natural scientists).

All of these centers are provided with reception points for visitors, informative materials, issues, videos and gadgets on free distribution or sale; many of them also feature a projection room, a library, educational labs and guest quarters. In some case the center manages a faunistic area, a botanic garden or a nature route.

Faunistic Areas
The Park created several faunistic areas hosting its most interesting species from an educational, scientific, reintroductional and health point of view. The animals living inside these areas are not there just to satisfy tourists wonder, but they also live in an habitat that looks like their native one and that, providing very wide spaces inside of it, allows them to breed even in this condition. Not only being an educational purpose, their presence enables researchers to collect more details about their species. Acquiring this knowledge will support us while enacting the proper preservation and safeguard policies towards the specimens living free. These animals are very often reintroduced in nature. It is possible to visit the Faunistic Areas contacting the staff (often made up from cooperative societies of local young people) or the Visitor Centers mentioned above.

Botanic Gardens
Conveying the rich vegetable heritage of its territory is one of the institutional priorities of the Park Authority. For this reason two Botanic Gardens have been built for native plants: the “Daniela Brescia” Botanic Garden in Sant’Eufemia a Majella and the “Michele Tenore” one, placed respectively on the western and the eastern slopes of Majella. Both play a significant role in the safeguard of spontaneous species, encouraging the use of native plants for restoration works as well as spreading the environmental topic to the people. These botanic gardens host the floristic species of the Park and, in general, of the Central Apennines. It is possible to visit them contacting the Visitor Centers of Sant’Eufemia a Majella and of Lama dei Peligni mentioned above.
