Family: Lentibulariaceae
Scientific name: Pinguicola fiorii Tammaro & Pace
Description: It is a small carnivorous plant that can grow up to 10 cm. Its fleshy leaves have revolute margins and its flowers are purple. It grows on soils poor in nitrogen and it also feeds on small insects caught with its viscid leaves. It can be found between 700 and 2,400 m on dripping rocks and blooms between May and June.
Distribution: It is an endemic and exclusive species of the Majella massif.
Note: It is an endangered species, included in the “Vulnerable” category (VU) of the National Red List of the Italian Plants and in the “Lower Risk” category (LR) of the Regional list. According to the Abruzzo Regional law 11.9.1979 n. 45 it is a protected species.
