Levier's violet

Family: Violaceae

Scientific name: Viola eugeniae Parl. subsp. levieri (Parl.) Arcang.

Description: It is a herbaceous perennial plant growing up to 15 cm, with leaves thickened at the base of the stem and simple floral scapes. Its flowers are purple or yellow, sometimes whitish or variegated, 2-4 cm. It blooms between April and June and grows in pastures and meadows at relatively low altitudes.

Distribution: Endemic of Abruzzo. Its presence is uncertain in Lazio.

Notes: Also the more common nominal subspecies – growing at higher altitudes – is present within the Park.
